Set the points to 0.018" before setting the timing. Rotate the engine to 30 degrees BTDC (Morgan told the mechanic to set the timing by piston height instead, with full ignition advance at 3/8 before TDC, measured through the spark plug hole) and set the advance lever to full advance. Undo the screw in the middle of the rotor (no need to remove it all the way) and then lever the cam away from the engine. You'll feel it pop off the tapered shaft. Then rotate the cam until the points begin to open. Tighten the screw again to lock down the rotor. Then rotate the engine a couple of revolutions to see if your timing held.
Did you recently buy this Morgan? If so, I'd like to update my list of owners, which has over 220 vintage Morgan trikes listed in the Americas.
