That would be a 4/4, not a Plus 4. By 1969 the Plus 4 (2.3 liter Triumph engine) was no longer being built -- the loss of the use of that engine is what led to the creation of the Plus 8.
There was a competition model listed during Series V production, 1963--1967 (with the Ford 1500 "pre-crossflow" engine like that found in the Cortina, built to GT specification), and perhaps into the 4/4 1600 crossflow era (starting in 1968) but they were soon all built to Competition specification. I don't know when Morgan dropped the "Competition" designation and built them all to that spec but perhaps it wasn't until the early 1970s.

Many thanks Duncan for enlightening me !!
As you can tell I’m a newbie to Morgan’s, but learning fast thanks to you help.
This car is a four seater. How do we tell the 4 seaters apart from the 2 seaters in their typenumber please ?
Is there a website where we can check chassisnumbers and see what the car originally came with in terms of extras etc from the factory ? I have seen somewhere a copy of the original Morgan invoice from somewhere in the sixties that listed in what shape and livery the car was delivered, including all extras.
I would like to check this car’s chassis number....
Many thanks,
W D S

Sadly no website, but you can get a "chassis record" from the factory for a fat fee. It will be a transcription from the record kept by the company in their famous hand written ledgers compiled as cars were dispatched, giving chassis, engine, and gearbox numbers, color, upholstery color, optional extras supplied and any other pertinent details. The chassis record will come in the form of a printed sheet encapsulated in plastic, and it will be some weeks before it is delivered.
I learned that my "1960" green +4 with black upholstery was ivory with red upholstery when dispatched in September 1959. Chassis, engine and gearbox numbers still match.

FYI From the Dealership records I have from Sterne Motors in Sidney BC and later Burnaby BC. Sterne Motors imported 2 Supersports. #4996 and #5330 Both accounted for today, and 3 Plus 4 Competition. #6149, #6269 and # 6428 None of which are accounted 4 today. Note #6428 was built Feb-67. 72 spoke wheels, wood wheel, Derrington Exhaust and Selectaride. (so def a Comp, model)
cheers

I am afraid I am going to have to contradict the information about the Derrington exhaust being a 'four-branch manifold attached to the standard exhaust'. In fact it is a complete, unique system. I say this because my own ex-California car appears to host an original factory system. It's a DHC that the handwritten factory record shows as ordered with the 'Derrington' option.
The manifold is a 4-2-1 design. But the two pipes extend well beyond the chassis. These then enter a single fabricated unit that consists of: the Y-piece that brings it down to one; a foreshortened silencer that is supported by a single central stud (the standard has one at each end); and the subsequent tailpipe.
Cheers, Colin

The Derrington exhaust manifold goes 4-2-1 but is 1 before the chassis so standard single flex pipe is used through the chassis to the muffler. The new manifolds from Morgan Spares are made very similar to the Derrington but use a one piece flange at the head.
Two pipes through the chassis is how LawrenceTune did them for the SuperSports. I will try to attach the MorganSpares picture of the Derrington type

Hello, GoMoG Loren
I have a 1966 Morgan +4 competition chassis #6272 engine #CT65235ME, Gearbox #3943 HR. that was restored by Gerry and Derick Wilburn in 2021. Derick tried to research this Morgan at that time, but other than being dispatched to Basil Roy Ltd on July 20, 1966, he could not come up with any more information and reported to me at the time of purchae that this car was lost to history. I have been trying to find additional history on this cars' ownership and cannot seem to find anything on this car prior to its arrival in the US. You mentioned a lost and found in this thread. Is that forum here on this site, or is there another GoMog site you mentioned in your post?
Thanks
Steve H

Yes there is a site called gomog. It will pop up if you google the word or try http://www.gomog.com It has a Manual and a Morgans Lost & Fond page amongst other . things.
Some owners, like the late Gerry Willburn, had copies of the Factory build records. Herman Pol in the Netherlands offers a history service on older cars with the same documentation but more research. And off gomog, you will find a registry of some 6000-7000 Morgans, sorted by VIN #, Name, place etc.
The gomog Lost & Found, lists cars being looking for by past or present owners. It's most effective reach is the first month, where I list a search demand on the NEW PAGE which gets 30,000-40,000 visitors a month. After that is take patience and luck.
L.
P.S, More info is available on your variant in some of the better older Morgan books.

Hi Derek.
Thanks, as you know I did not get the info on who owned this car previous to Erik. When I changed to Oregon plates I carefully removed the registration stickers off the California plate. The first sticker was dated 2001 indicating it was first purchased in California in 2000. I remember Erik saying the car may have been sold out of New York. I'm curious as to what makes you think this? Is this what George Newbauer said? I have been trying to research this car for a while. I discovered in the Morganville registry that the previous owner to George Newbauet was G David McCoy in Shaker Heghts, Ohio. In talking to Morganville they did not have a date it was entered into the registry, but told me he started the registry in 1996. I found an email address for Mr. McCoy and tried to contact him, but got no response. I am going to remove and inspect the speedometer to find the serial number and hopfully find the date of manufacture. This should at least give me an idea of when the car was first restored.
Thanks for the info Derek, BTW I adjusted the detent screw for 2nd gear half a turn. I lucked out. That was perfect. It no longer pops out of gear when coasting and it doesn't grind gears when downshifting. Excelent advice! Thanks.

Hi,
I have the factory records in storage at the moment but I did write down that your car was originally green and despatched 20 July 1966 to Basil Roy the dealer in London. You will find that 6272 is not listed in Ken Hill’s list of Competition Plus4 models -his book is Completely Morgan 1936-1968. Your car is a low body or low line is another term, and the factory records list the usual Competition options for your car but it does not have “Competition” written in (a mistake I guess) so Ken passed it by not knowing that it is a low body Competition as specd -there might be others as well. By 1967, production changed to the low body as standard but you could still get the same Competition options -sometimes the car listed as Competition and sometimes not.
I don’t remember why we thought it came from New York to George. Might have been a license plate we saw in the parts or something his son mentioned. Great that you found the Ohio owner’s name, maybe we can find out more.
Cheers,
Derek
