Ken, if after your UK trip of a life time and you feel you cant live without a Morgan Mistress in your life send me a note.
Well, Melon only lets me keep one mistress at time, and that, of course is our '62 MGA

We had a very interesting day today. Bumper bracket broke, but luckily at very low speed in stop/go traffic. Good old zip ties got us back to our hotel!
Not uncommon Ken..if you have one of the earlier curly brackets. The aluminum ones are less attractive but sturdier. Which do you have on that car?
These breakages became a plague after they switched to the later stainless steel closed-end bumpers. The stainless steel bumpers are double the weight of the alloy
ones. So not providing a stronger bracket was a BIG mistake. Even bumpers brackets can become Peter Principled. A few years ago Morgan began offering the curly
brackets in stainless. https://www.morgan-motor.com/product/bumper-bracket-rh/ Nonetheless no one advises the stainless steel bumper people to upgrade those
brackets when they swap in the prettier stainless bumper. They should.
After the bracket breaks, it usually holds on for a while..waiting until the vibration splits it off at the crack. If you are very lucky it will drop off harmlessly. Imagine the
damage caused when it shears off at speed! I guarantee you, for every handful of people on this forum who have that combination of parts, one will have a bumper
bracket growing right now.
Outside of the overseas bumpers, Morgan bumpers are decorative and actually cause more damage in an impact rather than less. The old brackets can be welded,
but then they merely crack again at the edges of the weld.
Not to worry, if you do not have these brackets and bumper..we have now warned the people here.
Your pictures are bringing back memories. Have you been to the Isle of Skye and Inverness?

P.S. Are you aware that there is a possibly convenient noggin set up by JockMog, the Scottish Morgan center, next Thursday (the 15th) not far from you. Lovely
place. The food is good and the suites are super...and inexpensive (for the UK). I have stayed in one of their suites.. It would be no problem getting you an invitation.

Lorne,
Unfortunately on the next day the +8 suffered a cooling fan failure in heavy traffic. I had to run a few lights to keep moving as the temp went up to the 130 C range. We reached our hotel in Castleton (lovely village BTW) and the AA arrived. Our agency tech said it was probably just a fuse or relay, but after 3 hours the AA gave up and wired a fused connection under the bonnet. Not wanting to continue another 2 weeks with fan on full, waiting for the next problem we demanded a replacement Morgan!
Ah, they had a lovely 4/4 available - fine, deliver it please!. An hour passed and we got word the 4/4 had suffered a vandalism, with the hood slashed. The offered a choice of a Lotus Exige (no luggage room) or a new Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Having luggage and not wanting to appear to be traveling from Miami Beach or LA, we declined both and offered to end the relationship and move on to Hertz or Avis. An hour transpired, then they suddenly realized they had an E-Type Jag available!
We loved the Mog, but are now completing the trip in the Jag.
Great car, but not the experience we signed up for...
