New member here, but long time Mog owner (40 yrs). I am in the process of rebuilding the side curtains on my '59 Plus 4. They are the non-sliding window type (single sheet of 40 mil clear vinyl for the transparent section). Surprisingly, they fit fairly well. Here's my question: The lower panel that opens for hand signals and tolls has a short leather strap that is on the cockpit side of the panel. It has an elongated hole that looks like it's meant to slip over a knob or similar that would be located on the inner part of the door panel. I have never seen a picture of the original installation, and my car does not have anything on the interior of the door panel. Does anyone out there know what the strap would attach to? Or better yet, have a picture of this type of side curtain installed on an actual car? Thanks in advance.

I don't think I've ever seen those type of side screens. I was given some screens and painted them up and replaced the plastic windows.

1966 I purchased my first Morgan, a 1957 4/4 which had the side curtains as you describe, openable below the clear vinyl however I don't recall any closure apparatus. I thought the design was to aid access to the interior.

I have the side curtains at home like you describe. I'll have to take a look at them when I get home. I do not recall seeing a strap, but the car is in little pieces at the moment and I wasn't looking for it.

Thanks all for the quick responses. You can see the remains of the leather straps in the pic. After looking through my many Morgan books, I found a couple of pics of the side curtains in place. The strap has a lift the dot which fastens to a stud on the inside of the door. The elongated hole I mentioned in the original post turns out to be where the lift the dot tore free many, many years ago. When I bought this car in 1985, the side curtains were in a box of old parts (all Morgans come with those, don't they?) and they have never been on the car since I've owned it. Thought it was time to try them out smiling smiley

That makes sense. I'll still check mine. I am restoring a 53 that has similar side curtains.

When I get to that point I'd like to see if there is a way to convert them to sliding windows.

Depending on how mine turn out, I may be looking to do the same. Right now, I like the challenge....

From your most recent pictures it appears to be a "Lift a dot" and peg as on the top front of the windshield where the "hood" (top) attaches to the windshield. The orifice hole of the strap looks to me as it certainly could of had a "lift a dot anchored to it.

I have a 54 that came without side curtains. I was lucky enough to have another Morgan owner send me a couple of frames. The frames fit a newer Morgan and I need to cut them to fit my car. A little lost as to dimensions and how to fit them to my car. I could use some suggestions or diagrams for fitting to the car.

My ‘61 Plus 4 2-Seat Roadster had no side curtains when I purchased it. Mike Anthony hooked me up with a pair of original steel frames which I refinished. Mike was kind enough to lend me a pair of similar side curtains (also needing refurbishing) to show my upholsterer as a template to complete my frames. The “strap” was on the sample pair and I had them added to mine. Standard press snap female on the strap end with a receiver mounted on the door card. Keeping things original is commendable but if I had to pick up side curtains again I’d opt for the aluminum frame sliding window type. Cost wise both options about the same. The originals are heavy and put a strain on 65 year old door hinges. My new lower flap is stiff and access is a challenge. No easy way to keep the flap open for ventilation (keeping the hood off solves that problem).
